After completing the innovation project Digital Tomatoes, we engaged in discussions with our close partners at Göteborg Energi and the City of Gothenburg. How could we take this work further toward realization—a so-called “Proof of Concept”?

This eventually led to the opportunity to connect a cultivation greenhouse to Göteborg Energi’s existing data center in Backa, on Hisingen in Gothenburg. The project’s focus is to serve as a testbed for technology transferring residual heat from data centers to greenhouses, but also to test, at full scale, business models for commercial, year-round greenhouse cultivation in heated facilities.

The project is being evaluated in collaboration with Odlingsbolaget Svalan (a commercial urban farming company), which rents the greenhouse and has been operating the cultivation since autumn 2024.
