Greenhouse Living offers consulting support for projects involving solutions for food production and cultivation in urban environments. We have hands-on experience with innovative system solutions for the utilization and local recycling of residual heat, water, and nutrients from wastewater. Solutions that are closely related to our closed-loop systems developed for individual eco-houses. These solutions include both greenhouse cultivation and open-field farming. We can also contribute with proposals for operational strategies and business models for both private and public facilities.
Most of these projects we have done in close collaboration with the City och Göteborg (avdelningen för stadsnära odling) and Göteborg Energi.

Why should we produce food in cities?
Urban food production should be seen as a complement to agricultural production in rural areas. To reduce transport in the future and ensure that food is available close to where we live, we need to work towards producing more food within our cities, near the end consumer. Waste heat, water, and nutrients from urban residual flows can be used to enrich urban farming.
Since most of us live in cities, the physical presence of cultivation and food production in our everyday environments helps secure awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of our most fundamental need: the food we eat.
