Atri Naturhus
Atri is an A‑shaped, self‑sufficient residential building designed to achieve minimal environmental impact and an integrated interaction between living, technology, and cultivation. The house was designed and built by the housing company Naturvillan in close design collaboration with Greenhouse Living. Constructed of wood and glass, it unites greenhouse and living spaces in a bright and cohesive architectural structure. The pointed geometry and the pine tones of the surrounding forest are reflected in the building’s striking exterior, where two soaring glass walls lean toward one another, revealing an interior almost entirely composed of timber.
An off‑grid system enables local production of electricity and heat through solar panels and wood‑firing, supplying both space heating and domestic hot water. Water is sourced from an on‑site well, while wastewater and greywater are treated in a circular system where nutrients are recovered and returned to the cultivation beds. The greenhouse and integrated planting zones enable high vegetable production on a limited footprint while contributing to a stable indoor climate. The result is a sustainable year‑round dwelling.
Atri has received several awards for its pioneering design and was the world’s most visited property on Airbnb in 2023.
